A MAGNIFICENT AND RARE .44 (HENRY) LEVER-ACTION PLATED AND ENGRAVED REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL 'HENRY', serial no. 9093,
for 1865, with blued octagonal 24 1/4in. barrel with integral magazine-tube beneath, the top-flat signed 'HENRY'S PATENT OCT 16 1860' over 'MANUFACTURED BY THE NEWHAVEN ARMS CO. NEWHAVEN CT.', (one small patch of corrosion in the word 'manufactured'), white metal blade foresight, the muzzle turning for loading, elevating ladder rear-sight, silver-plated brass action engraved with borders and American scrolls on a punched dot ground, the slab sides with vacant central blank areas possibly for an inscription, scroll-work extending along the top and bottom-tangs, also the floor of the cartridge lifter, walnut butt-stock with silver plated crescent heel-plate, the top scroll engraved, central trap-door for cleaning rods, side mounted sling-swivels fitted with a early 20th century webbing sling, colour-hardened finger-lever and plated thumb-piece for loading, the whole retaining much original blued and plated finish, fading in high wear areas
